    Liaoyang (Simplified Chinese: ÁÉÑô; Traditional Chinese: ß|ê–; pinyin: Li¨¢oy¨¢ng) is a city in China, Liaoning province, located in the middle of the beautiful and rich Liaodong Peninsula. The city is situated on the T'ai-tzu River. It is approximately one hour south of Shenyang by car. Liaoyang suffers from heavy air pollution. There is little or no 'night life.' The inhabitants of the city are not used to visitors from the outside. While friendly, their spontaneous exclamations of surprise can be overwhelming.


History
Liaoyang is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in northeast China. The city has a number of sites of historical interest. Among these is the White Pagoda (baita), which dates back to the Yuan dynasty. The Liaoyang White Pagoda sits in White Pagoda Park. Liaoyang was once the capitol of Manchuria. The Emperor moved the capitol to Shenyang in 1625, without ever looking back.

It was the site of the Battle of Liaoyang (August 24-September 4, 1904), which was one of the major battles of the Russo-Japanese War.


Tourism
There are man-made scenes, and a few natural beauty and scenic spots. The lack of greenspace throughout the city is noticeable. Chief among points of interest are: Huo Jia Jiaozi, a traditional dumpling restaurant, and Ming Du Sangna, a place for the wealthy elite to meet for a bath.

Dalian port is 332 Kilometers from Liaoyang, Bayuquan port is 162 kilometers from Liaoyang and Taoxian International airport is 60 Kilometers from Liaoyang and .the communications in Liaoyang are highly developed. Telephones in Liaoyang have been controlled by program and the total telephone exchange capacity has reached 240,000 sets. International direct dialing, mobile phone and fax are common. Internet service is widely used and promoted.

     The virescence, beautification and purification of the environment in Liaoyang take a leading position in the whole province. Liaoyang is a class A provincial level clean city and an advanced city meeting the standard set by the ¡° Green Leaf Cup¡± of the province.      Historical man-made scenes mainly include the wall paintings of tomb group of the Han and the Wei dynasties, the Gaojuli Yanzhou city (Bai Yan city) remains, the Eight Treasure Glazed Well, the White Pagoda of the Liao Period. Qingfeng Temple of the Ming dynasty, the remains of ancient city wall, the remains of Dongjing city of the Qing dynasty, Dongjing Tomb, the Cao Xueqin Statuary, the typical northern mansion built in the early days of the Republic of china, the Mansion of the Family Pengs (now a modern museum), the articles of prehistory days unearthed, valuable historic cultural documents and the birthday writing by Emperor Jia Qin and 125 famous scholars of Qianlong, Jia Qing periods presented to the famous imperial tutor Wang Erlie.
    
     Natural landscapes include Tanghe scenic spot with its green hill and clear water, the natural beauties of Hehuogou, the charms of Stone Cave Forest Park, the raging water of Shenwo reservoir scenic spot, the twists of ever flowing Taizhi River, the Caster Cave formed some 4 million years ago, Guanyin Cave and the all year round freezing land and cold cave of Gushaocheng.
